Welcome

LT Hill“Great, another required mandated training on substance abuse, as if we don’t have to sit through enough of these boring trainings.  It would be one thing if we were actually learning something, but  all we do is sign in and get ready for death by PowerPoint!”

Welcome to Lieutenant Bob Hill’s San Diego State University’s Educational Technology (EDTEC) portfolio.  As the above statement implies, one of the reasons I was drawn to the EDTEC field was to be a part of changing the way we receive training in the United States Coast Guard.

In early 2008, I was given the opportunity of a lifetime... to obtain a master's degree, paid for by the Coast Guard. The selection process for admission to the Coast Guard's advanced education program is very competitive, but I worked hard at putting together the best application I could for consideration in the program. Having been out of school for ten years, I had to get back into "studying" mode, starting first with preparing for the GRE. I have always been dedicated to doing my best with every situation in life that I take on, and attempting to get selected for graduate school was no exception.

In the end, my hard work paid off, and I have been fortunate to attend San Diego State University, work with and learn from outstanding faculty and best of all, get paid to do it!

Once I have completed my degree, I will be stationed at one of the Coast Guard's training centers or central headquarters filling a Performance Technology job for the next few years. I look forward to using the skills and knowledge I learn here to help me to improve the Coast Guard.
